Android
Tiune for Android is a keyboard with a mic key. How it will install from Google Play, how to dictate, and what's different from the desktop.
On Android, Tiune is a keyboard. It's a complete one — swipe typing, suggestions, autocorrect, emoji and clipboard — with a Tiune mic key on top. Tap the mic in any app, speak, and your words are written where your cursor is.
Not on Google Play yet
Tiune for Android is coming to Google Play, and isn't listed there yet. This page describes how it will work once it is. Until then, there is nothing to download.
What you need
- A phone running Android 9 or later.
- A Google account to sign in with.
Tiune has been built and tested on phones. Tablets and foldables haven't been tested.
Setting it up
Once Tiune is on Google Play:
- Install Tiune from Google Play, and open it.
- Turn on the Tiune keyboard. Tiune takes you to Android's keyboard settings; switch Tiune on there. Android warns that any keyboard can collect what you type — that's true of every keyboard, and Privacy says exactly what this one does.
- Choose Tiune as your keyboard. Turning a keyboard on doesn't make it the one in use. Tiune raises Android's keyboard picker for you — pick Tiune. If you skip it, the app shows a reminder with Choose Tiune until you do.
- Sign in with Google. It happens inside the app, with no browser trip.
- Allow the microphone when Android asks, the first time you dictate.
Dictating
Tap the mic key to start, speak, and tap again to finish. The words land where your cursor is, in whatever app you're typing in.
- Backspace while you're speaking takes back the last phrase, so you can say it again.
- The dictionary key teaches Tiune a word. Put your cursor after a name it keeps getting wrong (or select it) and press the key; Tiune adds it to your vocabulary.
- Roman Urdu is safe from autocorrect. The keyboard knows Roman Urdu words and doesn't "fix" them into English.
On Plus and Pro, AI cleanup matches the app you're writing in — about 45 common apps, from email to chat — the same way it does on a computer. See How Tiune Writes.
Your plan on the phone
Your plan belongs to your account, not to a device. If you already have Plus or Pro from the desktop app or the website, sign in on the phone with the same account and it's there.
- Free on the phone is English only, for now.
- Pro adds cloud transcription in other languages. On the phone, Online, offline backup means the cloud first, with the phone's own engine taking over when you're offline.
What's different from the desktop
The phone does less than a computer. It doesn't have:
- Meeting notes. A phone can't hear another app's call.
- Transformations.
- Editing past dictations in your history.
- The desktop's language gate, which keeps English dictation on your machine in Online, offline backup. See Offline Mode.
- Sign-in with Apple or Microsoft. On the phone it's Google only.
Everything else about privacy is the same as on a computer: on the same plan, the same things leave your phone, and nothing extra leaves because you typed it. See Privacy.
