Why the dictation key differs by platform. Alt+Space has opened the window menu on Windows since 1990, and muscle memory outranks cross-platform consistency. Right Alt costs nothing to claim — it produces no character on its own.

Esc is only live while Tiune is actively listening or has just captured something, so it won't interfere with Esc anywhere else.

Undo the rewrite is live for about five seconds after each dictation and is then released back to other apps, so it never shadows a key you need. Want a different shortcut? One-button dictation

You don't have to use a chord. Push-to-talk can be bound to a single modifier held on its own — right Alt, Fn, or either Shift — so starting a dictation is one key under one finger rather than two keys at once.

Windows already works this way by default: right Alt, held alone. On macOS the default is the ⌥Space chord, but a single modifier is available there too — change it in Settings → General, click the current shortcut, and press the one key you want.

A modifier you pick this way still behaves normally when you tap it. Tiune responds to it being held, which is why the candidates are keys that produce no character on their own.

Transformations

Available on Plus and Pro. These chords are registered only while a capture is still settled — the seconds right after Tiune types, when there's something to transform. Outside that window the keys belong to whatever app wants them.

Windows deliberately avoids Alt here, because the Windows dictation key is right Alt held alone — an Alt-based transform chord would start a dictation on its way to being pressed. See Transformations.
